Halftones

Separation
  • Layers vs. Channels – for psd or eps format, please provide separation in layers or channels
  • 4 color process index separation with discharge
  • Black and dark colored shirts
  • Black and dark colors do not work with our 4 color process! - the discharge required for black and dark shirts removes transparency in the inks, as a result, the last color applied covers on top of the other colors that have already been placed on the shirt, instead of allowing a blend that reproduces your matching colors!
  • High Resolution Images Required
  • Low Resolution Images, (72 Dpi For Example), May Hide The Actual Number Of Colors In Your Design - This Will Result In An Adjustment To Your Original Quote
Placement
  • Pacific splash provides all templates necessary to adjust placements for various size shirts
  • It is important to make sure the placement of your image on the garment is precisely where you want it positioned and looks best for the garment style you are using.
  • It is critical to adjust the placement of your image if you are printing on a wide variety of sizes. Optimal image areas may change depending on the shirt sizes – proportions and scale of size/area will differ from size to size. For example youth sizes and extra small to 6xl or if you are printing from size medium to xl the design placement may need to be adjusted. A design may look too large for a small shirt if the original design was designed for large or extra large shirt. Placement of a design at 2 inches below the collar for extra large if not adjusted, may come down to 4 inches on an extra small all the way down to the belly.
  • This also comes into play when considering the following:

Waterbased vs. Plastisol Inks
  • It is important to distinguish waterbased from plastisol inks - although dark colors work with plastisol they may not work with discharge and waterbased inks!
Garment Printing vs. Lithography and Other Types of Screen Printing and Surfaces
  • Make sure your design accounts for the fact that you will be printing on a garment that is neither smooth, flat nor glossy! - colors print differently on different types of paper stock.
Quote Adjustment/Re-Quote
  • If the artwork varies little from the original image then there will be no adjustment to your pricing from the original quote. However, artwork that has significant changes from the original may be subject to a re-quote
Production Designs
  • Fine lines are bad and tend to crack!
  • Very fine lines, (smaller than xxxcm/inch), are not recommended!
  • They tend to crack and make it extremely difficult to reproduce your design in the production process
Seams and Sleeves
  • If possible, designs should not place much ink for the seems and sleeve seems!
  • This will result in variations from shirt to shirt
  • This is true for any all over screen printer!
  • Remedies include: adjusting the placement of design elements or avoiding using large design elements on seems and sleeves
Shirts - Discharge
  • Shirts must be 100% cotton for black and dark colors using discharge should have little or no polyester content!
***Also preferred that all shirts for a production run be from the same manufacturer and country, and preferably, from the same lot or batch
